Mother, the most beautiful word in my vocabulary! When I hear that word, it brings warmth, love, compassion and foundational support to my mind. Yes, I grew up having a loving and wise mother.

When I first learned about the MOMS RISING movie project, the first thought that came to mind was that I wanted to dedicate it to my mother. She made me who I am and I wouldn’t be where I am today without her.

With much excitement but not knowing what to expect, I watched the movie at the premiere in NY. Instantly, I knew every mother in the world had to see it. It reminded me of how strong, unwavering and yet tender the spirit of motherhood is.

Mothers are unsung heroes.

The movie reflected another thing back to me: I wanted to dedicate this project to my mother because of how much I appreciate her, but I now see another hidden unconscious reason - I didn’t really want to talk about myself because I felt I was just a “regular” mother, nothing extraordinary.

The movie reminded me of how each woman (mother or not) carries with her the unshakable love that becomes a powerful creative force.

On this journey of raising two children of my own, there were definitely moments where I doubted my own motherhood:

Am I a good mother?
How have I screwed them up?
Have I done enough for them?
Could I have done something differently?

Doubts, judgment, and self criticism are real.

But through the stories told in this movie (some made me cry, others put a big smile on my face), I came to the realization that there is no “regular” mother. Each mother is extraordinary in her own way, despite the messiness we may experience in our day-to-day life.

So, to all mothers/women out there, YOU and Me included, remember:

There is no human story without a mother

Dear Beautiful Soul, wherever you are, and whoever you are, and whatever your relationship to your own mother… we are all impacted by the spirit of motherhood.

We believe that the role of mother isn’t defined by blood or paperwork, but rather by the spirit of motherhood. There is no human on this earth who has not felt that spirit from someone in their life.

Perhaps “mother” brings up thoughts of your own mother, of your own children, or perhaps it brings thoughts of your spouse, your sister, your friend…

The “mother” role is about leadership, care, faith, and connection. Which is why we believe the power of a mother is so important in our society.

This movie is for everyone who appreciates the powerful spirit of motherhood, and from that place, we can make the world an even better place for us all.

We made this movie not just for mothers, but those who seek and feel that love and connection with mothers. It will awaken an understanding beyond the conventional, and invite conversations and understanding that makes the Spirit of Motherhood come alive.
